A list server is an automated way of sending email messages to all members of a group. There are 2 email addresses which access the server - the first is where you send any commands to, the second is where you send your messages to. Let's join the group first (i.e. add your name to the list).
This is where you send COMMANDS to the list server - the 2 commands of most importance are SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE. To subscribe to (join) the list server, send the following case sensitive message: SUBSCRIBE korg-i to the following address: korg-i-request@mail.well.fi
Don't put any subject in the subject line, just the subscribe command as the first and only line of the message. You should switch off any signature file which gets added to the end of your email messages - this isn't absolutely necessary but the list server checks each line of your message and trys to execute the commands - the 'subscribe' will be OK but each line of the signature will return with an error. This doesn't matter as long as the 'subscribe' is successful. You only need to SUBSCRIBE once. The list server will read your return email address and add you to the group. It will then send a message back to you saying whether you were successful or not. You can subscribe from different email addresses if you want, for example some people may want to subscribe from home and from work.
If at any time you want to leave the group, just send UNSUBSCRIBE korg-i to the above address.
Once subscribed, you can send messages to everyone in the group by simply sending your email to the following address: korg-i@well.fi
The list server will distibute your message to everyone in the group including a copy back to you. If you want to reply to a message, you can reply directly to the person or to the list server. For greater interest, it's better to reply to the list server so anyone else can join in the discussion. Note that when you reply, the default return address will be the message SENDER'S, not the list server. I click on REPLY then simply change the TO address to korg-i@well.fi before I send it - that way everyone sees it. Don't reply to the sender and Cc to korg-i as well since the original sender will receive two replies - one direct and one via the server.
